EMPIRE PICTURES. A thrilling and mystifying drama in the shape of "Nick Carter and the White Bed Mystery attracted considerable notice at the Empire Theatre on Saturday night. Notwithstanding the bad weather, there was a full house, the dramatic merits of the star film being alone sufficient to draw the crowd. Despite the obvious difficulty of displaying a detective drama in manner'intelligible to the audience the points and 'the intricate clues were easily followed. A popular run may safely be predicted for "Nick Carter and the White Bed Mystery." Kinematograph patrons never seem to tire of tales of life "out West." This is mainly due to the continued improvements that are being made in the get up of films of the kind referred to. One of the latest, "Told in Colorado," was included in tho change of programme. It is brimful of romantic and heroic sentiment, and includes several hair-raising episodes. Interesting reminiscences of the erstwhile feud on the -big ranches of America 011 account of tlxe introduction of sheep, are recalled by a well-depicted picture, "The Sheeplnan's Escape." The cowboys bitterly resent the intrusion of the more domesticated sheep, and accordingly seek to oust all those connected willi the wool-growing industry. How in this the shepherd triumphs to the chagrin of the cowboys provides an interesting story. The educational series include two sterling films. One is descriptive of the minting of money, and the other detailing the habits of "Birds of Moorland, Marsh and Mountain." Pathe's Animated Gazette was, as usual, crowded with current events of world-wide interest, ranging from train accidents to internntional cricket and football matches. On the scenic side.
