THE TITANIC DISASTER
MORE CONSCIENCE MONEY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Ottawa, June 21. An indirect result of the Titanic disaster is the extraordinary amount of conscience money received by the Customs Department from people who are obliged to cross the Atlantic regularly. THANKS TO THE CARPATHIA. Received 23, 5.5 p.m. London, June 22. Captain Rostron gave evidence that he raised the Carpathia's speed to 17% knots on receipt of the Titanic's wireless message. If it was a clear night, unless he knew there was a lot of ice about, he would feel perfectly justified in going at full-speed. The Titanic's passengers told him that the earlier boats were not filled because the people did not want to go away. The Attorney-General, on be-half of the Government, thanked Captain Rostron for saving so many lives.
