IMPERIAL POLITICS
; ' ••» . THE CONSERVATIVE POLICY. By Cable—Prew Asaoeiation—Copyright. London, June 20. Mr. Austin Chamberlain, speaking at Sheffield, said that the unprecedented labor unrest required the attention of Kie Government and Parliament, not the destruction of the ancient constitution, the plunder of a venerable church, and •the gerrymandering of the constituencies in the interests of faction. The unrest was due to the Ministers striving by every artifice and terminological inexactitude to set class against class. The Budget campaign sowed the seed of the trouble. Other causes were the increased cost of the necessities of life and the workers' legitimate desire to raise the standard of life. This was not to be achieved by •rguing that capital was labor's enemy, fie concluded by blaming the Government for turning a deaf ear to the offers of the Dominions for Imperial preference and slamming the door in the face of their kinsman.
