THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
| A DRAMATIC SCENE. By Cable—PreßS Association—Copyright. New York, June 20. There was a dramatic scene between Mr. Flynn and Mr. Roosevelt when the former shouted: "You ought to nave bolted long ago. Maybe it is too late pow; but as they are going to swindle you anyhow, you must make the attempt." Subsequently Mr. Flynn reSigned from the committee. AN INDEPENDENT FIGHT. New York, June 20. Mr. Roosevelt has repudiated the Republican Convention, and declares that he intends to lead an independent fight for nomination. ROOSEVELT BOOM BURST. New York, June 20. Advices from Chicago say "The Roosevelt boom is 'busted.'" According to the colonel's supporters, the Rooseveltjans are now anxious to secure a compromise candidate, but the Taftites are holding aloof, seeing victory ahead. ROOSEVELT'S ATTITUDE. A FIGHT TO A FINISH. WIN OR LOSE. Received, 21-. 11.5 p.m. Chicago, June 21. Owing to the certainty of their losing Offices it is unlikely that more than 200 Rooseveltites will participate in the bolt. The Illinois delegation, by 56 votes to two, decided not to participate. The Ohio and lowa delegates are of the same opinion. A meeting of the Wisconsin and Californian delegates favored a new party. It is evident that Roosevelt is badly 'desfrou-s of a rest, and is training his more ardent adherents to precipitate action, threatening financial danger. To secure the Presidency on the independent ticket Roosevelt would require a million sterling, and it is doubtful if his friends could stand the strain. Apart from the Eooseveltite protest the Credentials Committee has given a most definite indication of its probable action. Roosevelt, addressing his supporters, including two delegates from each of his ■ States, said:. "If I am honestly elected and a majority of the convention nominates me as the Republican candidate, I will accept it. If they fear to do so, and the remainder nominates me as a progressive on the progressive platform, and the general feeling among the progressives favors my nomination, I Briall accept it. In either case I shall appeal to every honest citizen to fight the campaign through, win or lose.
