"EXPECT ME TO GO NAKED."
A DEBTOR'S QUERY. The answers of a judgment debtor to a lawyer who was examining him in the Wellington Magistrate's Court as to his financial position brought the re-proof of Mr. Biddell, S.M., upon the debtor. The debtor entered the box, and took the prescribed oath. "What are you doing?" began the lawyer. "Standing here," answered the debtor. "Oh, you need not give an answer like that," interjected Mr. Riddell, decisively. Proceeding with his examination, the lawyer elicited answers to the effect that the restaurant business in which debtor was engaged was not paying, that debtor got no money, and that the debtor's wife held the cash. The debtor reiterated that ho got no money. "Well, who pays for your clothes!" queTied the lawyer. The debtor: "That is a. very funny ' thing to ask me! Do you expect me to go naked?" His Worship: "I don't want any ol » these impertinent answers." The lawyer: "Well, may I put it this way. Does your wife pay for your clothes?" The debtor: "You can put it that way if you like." The lawyer (a little later): "I your Worship, that this debtor is so unsatisfactory that an order should b« made against him." His Worship told the debtor that it was his business to be able to answer the questions as to his financial position, and that the case would be adjourned for a week in order that the debtor might furDish himself with the required knowledge.
