DISTURBANCE AT SEA

ENCOUNTER'S SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCE. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 21, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, June 20. H.M.S. Encounter had a sensational experience. She left Auckland on May 24, and at ten o'clock on the following night she suddenly encountered an extremely heavy sea. A gigantic wave flooded the after part, filling the wardroom, knocking the bottom out of the galley, doing other damage, and nearly washing the men off the bridge. The commander attributes the incident to a submarine volcanic disturbance, the phenomena coinciding with the seismic disturbance in New Zealand.
