MONTHLY MEETIMH The monthly meeting of the Taranaki | Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday; when then! were pre- " sent:' Messrs. F. J. Bellringcr (chairman), J. Brown, Wm. Cutfield, E. Maxwell, M. J. Macßeynolds, D. McAlhim, J. R. Hill, G, W. Browne, A. H. Halcombe, and D. H. Mac Donald. HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT. Mr. Kendall, Health Officer, reported that during tile past month he had visited Opunake, Oeo, Te Kiri, Rahotu, Okato, Mangorei, Inglewood, and Waitara. Nine cases of scarlet fever were notified, six being in the Egmont County, one in New Plymouth, and two in Waitara. One death from tuberculosis occurred in New Plymouth. He had disinfected all premises except' those which patients were still occupying while suffering from scarlet fever. Disinfections had been carried out at premises at Oeo which had been occupied by a phthisis patient, and he had also disinfected premises on the Oeo road which had been occupied by Maoris who had died of tuberculosis; also premises at Te Kiri which had been occupied by scarlet fever patients, and premises at Okato and New Plymouth, which had been occupied by tuberculosis patients. He liad j reported separately on all these cases ' to the Public Health Department. He also reported separately upon alleged infection from tuberculosis in connection with Maoris and one of the State schools in »the Egmont County. He had visited the tangi of a deceased Parihaka native at Mangorei, and saw the body removed for burial. Although there was a large gathering of native.";, and in spite of the bad weather, he found everything reasonably satisfactory under the conditions. The Assistant Inspector of Hospitals wrote asking whether the Board would take for training as a nurse a Maori or a half-caste Maori girl. At the present time there were several girls very highly recommended as suitable for nurses now waiting to get into the hospitals, and they were, he considered, much needed in the country. —The Board, it was stated, had always been prepared to accept such candidates. The Treasury forwarded subsidy amounting to £466 7s !M. It also forwarded subsidy amounting to £823 Is 7<l,"less £545 14s paid as proceeds of sale of land, and queried by the Audit Department. In connection with this latter amount Mr. Jas. P. Frengley, medical secretary, notified that lie would place the matter before the Minister with reference to a sum being placed on the Estimates to cover the £545 14s in question, as he understood that this was the only way in which the amount could be paid. The Department of Public Health notified that in future the Audit Department would charge hospital boards £2 per day for auditing its accounts, the same as was done to other local bodies. Mr. N. K. MacDiarmid notified that in future the rate of interest on the Board's overdraft would be 5y 2 per cent. The names of Mary C. Symons (Pungarehu), Eileen Ogg (Petone), Ellen McFadgen (Cardiff), and Catherine Muir (Matapu) were added to the probationi era' list. The Borough Council notified that, in view of the large quantity of electrical energy supplied to the hospital, it had been decided to grant an extra discount of Id per unit. The chairman's action in letting a contract to Messrs. Cliff and Q-ravling for the removal of the D.T. colls from the hospital to the Old People's Home site was confirmed. The following accounts were passed for payment: £658 5s 3d (hospital) and £195 2s 6d (charitable aid).

A number of the boys have also used it for chilblains, sore feet and chapped hands, and in every instance have found it to be an excellent remedy.
