THE WEATHER.
* : SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Meteorological Department published the following summary and- forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary. —Cloudy and unsettled weather prevailed, with heavy rain in parts. The barometer rose in the south during the night, hut has fallen northward of Cook. Strait, for a low pressure area is apparently developing on that direction. Winds have been variable and string to gale, especially on the West Coast, northerlies predominating. Present indications are for further decrease in barometeric pressure northward of Westport and Kaikoura. but a rapid rise will probably follow in about 24 hours, with winds variable and •trong to gale, westerlies prevailing and veering to southerly northwards of New Plymouth and Napier, and northerlies {tacking to south-westerly galq elsewhere. Heavy rain is probable generally. with snow on higher levels, and with much colder weather following toon. . "i * : T«''
