A RUBBER SUBSTITUTE. Received 19, 12.2;" a.m. London, June 18. Professor Perkin, of Manchester, has announced the discovery of synthetic rubber on a commercial scale, manufacturable at half-a-crown a pound, which may be reduced to a shilling. Fusel oil produced from starch in maize is then converted into isoprene, whence the rubber is extracted by contact with sodium. AN ABORIGINAL MURDER. Received 19, 12.25 a.m. Perth, June 18. Three aboriginals have been sentenced to death for murdering another aborigine through resentment at him claiming overlordship over them and their gins. THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY.
