ENTERTAINMENTS

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. "THE RECREATION GROUNDS." ' T:; rc-po-ise to numerous requests tha Empire management will show again tonight and .to-morrow night the local production of the beauties of the Recreation Grounds. This will be the last occasion on which the picture will be shown in New Plymouth, as Mr Saundera has already sold the copy to one of th« large film renting concerns for ahow, throughout New Zealand. Those who have not seen this picture should not miss the present opportunities, and those who have can well afford to view tt onei more, as by so doing they will be helping in a small way towards the heavy, expenses of a picture that will undoubfc>' edly prove an advertisement of incalculable value to the town of New Plymouth. The remainder of the programme will undergo a complete change to-night.

BLASCHECK. The London papers have been full bl stories about Mr. George Grossmith, sen., who died recently at Folkestone, where he had lived in retirement after a not-V able career of 42 years on the stage and the entertainment platform. It was he who, consulted by *; well-known author upon the advisability of having a ten minutes' interval, exclaimed, "For goodness sake, don't do that." "Why?" asked his companion. "My dear sir," was the rejoinder, "never give your audience a chance of going out. They may not return." Mr. Blascheck, however, does not share these opinions, or has decided to risk it, for he always makes an interval of ten minutes, w ; hich really is little enough, considering the length of the. performance; besides, his audiences have been known to laugh until they have been glad of a respite. The famous society snapshots is to be given in the Theatre Royal to-morrow night. Tlve box plan is at Collier's, and those desiring good seats will be well advised if tkey book early.
