A HEAVY GALE

DESTRUCTION AT PAHIATUA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pahiatua, Last Night. Yesterday's gale was the severest felt in Pahiatua'for many years. Considerable damage was done, several large plate-glass windows in the main street being blown in, and fences and trees blown down. At Mangatainoka the roof of the Dudley Arms Hotel was lifted bodily from the building. It was carried across the road, and came in contact with the telegraph wires about forty yards distant, breaking eight out of ten wires. The portion of the roof carried away comprised twenty-two sheets of ten foot iron and a large number of rafters.
