The Republican fate now tests upon a hundred negro delegates, whose sole privilege is limited to voting at the Convention. They delegated traditionally for the Democratic candidate. Hie Southern States have been instructed to vote for President Taft, but Roosevelt's managers are stated to be at the negro headquarters, regaling them with chicken, drinks and cigars. . President JTaft's managers are said to be vieing with the same methods. Negroes with black coats, gorgeous ties, and patent leather boots oscillate between both hotels unpurturbed by charges of bribery. One is said to have refused a bribe from President Taft of 800 dollars. New York, June 15. Chicago reports state that the probability of a compromise candidate coming from the Republican ranks is denied by both sides. President Taft is continuing to gain flelegates. There was tremendous enthusiasm on Mr. Roosevelt's arrival in order to protest against the committee's methods. President Taft's supporters declare that Mr. Roosevelt is making vast efforts to avert defeat. President Taft has now secured 159 delegates to Mr. Roosevelt's nine. Taft is likely to enter the Convention with a bare majority.
