Owing to the illness of Mr. Oscar Thompson there has been a postponement of the conference between the Agents-General and the shipping companies on the question of raising fares for emigrants to Australia to £l4. Sir George Reid said the Agents-General are co-operating in an endeavor to prevent an increase.

Robinson, Agent-General, referred to Queensland's wonderful growth and development. Mr. Philp, who was the guest of the evening, expressed the, hope that emigration efforts would be continuous, not spasmodic. RIOTS IN NEW JERSEY. New York, June 13. Serious riots have taken place at Perohamboy, New Jersey, following on a strike. There have been several clashes with the poliee. One man has been fatally shot with a revolver and others wounded. Numerous arrests have been effected.
