(Conducted by "Eileen"). • SOCIETY NEWS. The G.F.S.—A very pleasant time was | spent at the Girls' Friendly Society's new club 'bouse last Tuesday, which was formally opened by the Vicar. A delicious tea was provided and .served by the associates, after which musical items were rendered by Misses Warren, O'Callaghan, and Taylor. Every credit and praise is due to the associates, iheaded by Miss Wilson (secretary), for the ad- ■' mirable way in which everything had been arranged. Bridge and Euchre Party.—The Technical School committee held a card party in the Brougham Street Hall last Wednesday evening, it proving a great success. 'After supper dancing was indulged in, the music for which was supplied by Mrs. A. George's orchestra. Amongst those present I noticed: Mrs. W. J Skating.—A grand fancy dress and ( poster carnival was held in the new Cor- > onation Hall last Thursday evening, ■ which with, its gaily decorated skaters was a sight worth seeing. Backbloeks Mission Concert.—Mrs. Colvile and Misses Godfrey and Taylor organised a very enjoyable concert in aid of the Baekblocks Mission Fund, which eventuated in St. Mary's Hall last Thursday evening, and although there were many counter attractions the building was well filled. Mrs. Peat (Feilding) is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Colvile. Mrs. Strang, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Crawford, lias returned to Taumarunui. Miss Knight, while on her short visit to New Plymouth, was the guest of Mrs. Bradbury, but has now gone to Wangamii. Mrs. C. Williams. Taihape, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. R. Cock, "Overdale." Mrs. Tansey (Mangaweka) is on a visit to her daughter (Mrs. K. Webster). WEDDING AT URENTJI. (From our own correspondent.) A wedding which created much interest in local circles was celebrated afl Sf), Paul's Church on Wednesday, when Miss Dolly Bethune, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Bethune (host and hostess of the, Urenui hotel) was married to Mr H. j Staines, of this town. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore an exquisite frock of cream duchess satin. A lace veil was worn over a chaplet of orange blossoms, her bouquet of choice white blooms being tied with white satin streamers. The chief bridesmaid (Miss Myrtle Bethune) was attired in cream ■ velvet, trimmed with cream lace and' braid, and finished with silk girdle and large hat to match. The other bridesmaid (Mw Tvy Staines) wore a cream silk delaine gown draped with pale pink and pink buttons and large hat to match. Both carried bouquets of pink and white flowers. The bridegroom was attended by Mr J. Staines as best man, and Mr A. Staines as groomsman. Thie service was performed by the Rev Harrison, of Waitara, and Mr. Heard, of New Plymouth, presided at the organ. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a lovely gold bracelet and brooch, and to both bridesmaids gold bangles. After the
