AUSTRALIA v. YORKSHIRE. THE MATCH DRAWN. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London,. June 12. The weather was dull and the wicket soft when tlie match Australia v. Yorkshire was resumed. Drake and Hirst were the first bowlers, and after lunch Haigh and Denton went on, Tasker keeping wicket, Dolphin having retired lame. With five added to the overnight score Gregory was bowled middle stump while playing forward to a break-back. Mayne succumbed to a break-back between his legs. Fifty appeared in 85 minutes. Jennings made 52 in 100 minutes, saw Midhirst bowled, and then' played on to Haigh. His innings lasted 120 minutes. It was a splendid exhibition on a treacherous pitch, and included four fourers. The batsman was heartily cheered. Emery got his leg in front to Haigh, and Carkeek "was splendidly caught with a running catch at slip. Hazlitt got his leg in front in trying to negotiate a full pitch. Jennings gave a chanee at 26 to Denton at short-leg. The weather was brighter in the afternoon, and the attendance increased to 5000. Wilson and Bates opened Yorkshire's second innings, Emery and Macartney leading the attack. They were shortly replaced by Hazlitt and Whitty, who proved deadly. Hazlitt started by removing Bates' off stump, and treated Denton similarly. Two runs later he r i: Drake leg-before. Three for 50. Four ,:iore wickets added Ifl. The bowlers kept a fine length, and showed clever variation of pace, dividing the honors. When seven wickets had fallen for m the county declared the innings closed.
Australia's second effort was a procession. During the seventy-five minutes left to retrieve their fortunes they made such a poor showing against Haigh than when time was called they had made only 35 for the loss of si'x wickets, Haigh capturing the whole at a cost of 14 runs.
