The Senate Committee favorably reported on the Bill authorising the opening operations at the Panama Canal. It retains the House's provision exempting coastwise vessels from tolls. THE ALASKAN OUTBURST. Washington, June 12. Reports from seaward, Alaska, state that the volcanic disturbances destroyed three native villages. There was a loss of two hundred lives. Loss of life is also probable at Afoznak Island. CADETS FOR CANADA. Received 13, 12.50 a.m. Sydney, June 12. The team of twenty-four cadets has sailed for Canada. A MADMAN'S SUICIDE. Received 12, 11.45 p.m. Sydney, June 12. The ganger Evles, who was temporarily insane as the result of the recent explosion, threw himself in front of a train.
