PERSONAL.

Mr. E. IT. W. Bligh, of the White Cross League, arrived in New Plymouth yesterday. He is arranging to lecture on Sunday. When Mr. Bligh paid his last visit four years ago his work was well appreciated. A cablegram from Fremantle states that Miss (Iraee Palotta, the popular actress, and Reece, the liilliardist, were passengers by the Ophir. After making a short stay in Australia. Recce will pay a seven weeks' visit to New Zealand.

We regret to record the death of Mr. J. C. Legg, which occurred at Hastings yesterday. Mr. Legg was a resident of this town for many vears, and only quite recently removed to Hawke's Bav, in which district he had heen in business. Deceased was prominently connected with the local lodge of Good Templars and with St. Mary's Church, and took a very active part in both movements. His sudden demise w i]] i )e keenly felt by a number of New Plymouth friends. Deceased leaves a widow two daughters and one son to mourn' their Joss. The interment will take place at New Plymouth on Saturday. Professor Egerton, speaking on behalf of the Professorial Board at the AnckIaT1(1 i capping day ceremony, paid tribute /-**■ vl vear * selected Rhodes scholajr (Mr. Wallace), for whom hp predicted great achievements, both in the realms of learning and of sport. The professor also to the success of Messrs. Ziman and Sisam, Rhodes scholars, who owned the Auckland University Colle«e as their alma mater. The former had graduated at, Oxford, ami proceeded to a lucrative Civil Service post in India while the latter, while still an undergraduate, has been appointed a university lecturer—quite a unique achievement. Such doings abroad by former students showed that the college was doing good work.
