ENTERTAINMENTS

I EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The Empire Pictures will submit an entirely new programme to local picture lovers to-night. The change programme is headed by a Kalem iilin, a spectacular war drama based on an incident in the second battle of Bull Run, entitled "The Spartan Mother." This spectacular and intensely dramatic production so completely surpasses all former war pictures of the same character that its worth as a feature cannot be realised until it has been seen on the screen. It is not only the season's masterpiece, but is high above any war drama previously screened. The strong dramatic plot is ever interrupted by the sensational battle scenes, the charging troops and the complete demolition of an old southern mansion. These thrilling incidents carry onward the intense and gripping interest in the characters involved, resulting in a rousing climax. Another drama of more than ordinary interest is the Lubin success '"Tis an ill wind that blows no g'ood," said to rival even that great dramatic success "The Fatal Wedding." Variety is added by "The National Hunt Steeplechase," "Pathe's Australian Gazette," "Yarmouth Herring Pishing," and "The Largest Abbey in the World." Four comics are included, all new, and all decidedly humorous.

We wish to remind our readers of the opportunity afforded, for a pleasant evening at the card party and dance to he held to-night in the" Brougham Street Hall in aid of the funds of the Technical College. There is dancing, euchre, and bridge provided, so plenty of enjoyment is likely to be provided.' We hope the ladies' committee, which has the affair in hand, will receive encouragement for this, the first social, and see many who are interested in the welfare of the college present.
