SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Presß Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Meteorological Department pub- :■ lished the following summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary.—Southerly wiitdß prevailed and increased from strong to gale on Saturday evening, especially on the eastern coast, with cold weather and heavy showers. The barometer rose to 30.5 inches in the south - and is high everywhere. A slight decrease in pressure is shown to-day at ; the Bluff and East Cape, and a southi: easterly gale and heavy seas are reported still at East Cape. ForecastPresent indications are for squally conditions about East Cape, and showery on the east coast of the North Island southwards. Fair to cloudy weather is probable elsewhere. The barometer is unsteady, but a temporary rise is likely , to precede a decided fall after from 24 to 36 hojirs. Moderate to strong southwesterly! winds, veering to eas'terly northward of Farewell Spit and Kaiioura, aiid southerly winds backing to westerly elsewhere.
