Mr. Denman, in opening a small anna factory at Lithgow, commended a preparedness for defence. Australia, he said, with a wide territory to spare for population, has powerful neighbors of enormous populations who would be only too glad to get hold of Australia if by war they could do so.
CANADIAN RECIPROCITY. Received 10, 12.30 a.m. Ottawa, June 9. Sir Wilfrid Laurier having stated that it is the Liberals' intention to continue a reciprocity campaign, the Anti-Reci-procity League is being resuscitated.
AN EARTHQUAKE SHOCK. Vancouver, June 9. A heavy earthquake shock has been experienced in Alaska. A volcanic eruption followed, and the town of Cordova is covered with ashes. Loud detonations were heard.
