PERSONAL.
The Right Hon. James Bryce, British Ambassador at Washington, and Mrs. Bryce arrived in Wellington from the north on Saturday. During their stay there they will be the guests of his Excellency the Governor. The Hon. J. A. Millar has been ordered to take a complete rest, and will leave Wellington for Rotorua to undergo medical treatment to-day. The sight of his right eye is still impaired, but he hopes to be in his place in the House when the session opens. The following cablegram has been received from London by Miss Rosina Buckman from Mr. John McCormack, the famous tenor, with whom she was recently associated in Australasia:— "Can you come London immediately. Good prospects Covent Garden. Wish to hear you. Cable." Mr. H. J. Brown, chairman of the British Oil Trust, and Mrs. Brown leave this morning for Wellington en route for Home. On Saturday evening the directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Co. and one or two others were Mr. Brown's guests at dinner. It is expected that Mr. Brown will pay another visit to New Zealand at an early date. The death took place at Fitzroy on Saturday of Mr. Alex Mcintosh. " Deceased was formerly manager of the local branch of the Bank of Australasia, and prior to that had charge of the Invcrcargill and Manaia branches of the bank. He was the eldest son of the late Rev. Joshua Mcintosh, M.A., and leaves a wife and one son, who will have the sympathy of a large circle in their bereavement. Deceased was but 51 years of age and had been ailing for some time.
