TO-MORROW'S MATCH. The Waimate team will arrive by the mail train this evening. They are all in fine form at present. Waimate are bringing their strongest team. They have a reputation to maintain, and they know how to maintain it. The Northern Division team contains several representative men. The match should prove fast and interesting, and should draw a big crowd to the Recreation Grounds to-morrow.
SOUTHERN DIVISION RESULTS. At Hawera on Saturday Waimate defeated Hawera by 9 points to nil. At Okaiawa the local team snatched a narrow victory over Opunake by 6 points to 5, whilst at Patea Kaponga and Pabea drew, each scoring 3 points. Kaponga juniors defeated Patea juniors by 5 points to nil.
All matches set down for decision in the Northern Division to-morrow have been postponed. High School and Clifton juniors will, however, play the match which was not placed through some unforseen circumstances earlier in the and it will take place at the Racecourse at 3 p.m. to-morrow.
NORTHERN LEAGUE FOOTBALL. WANGANUI v. TARANAKI. Lovers of exciting football got all they asked for in the above match played at Wanganui, but the game was a poor advertisement for the Taranaki footballers, and they have no reason to throw bouquets at themselves at the result. Taranaki at its full strength is ft powerful combination, but the ten men who journeyed to Wanganui on Saturday lack training, and the three loeal men who were pushed into service to make up a team were not brilliant either. Wind and rain rendered the ground a quagmire, and it says a good deal for the Northern Union game that the mud-larks were able to serve up to a good attendance an exhibition that was always spectacular and at times intensely exciting. Taranaki forwards played a great passing game, making the pace from the kick-off, and Moir and Walsh quickly notched tries, Stockman goaling in fine style. Then Wanganui took a turn at attacking, and Martin got over, the kick piercing the atmo- ■ sphere anywhere but between the uprights. Taranaki at once swept down the field, and Tocker fell in the wet, notching the third try. Stockman goaled vrith monotonous regularity. Changed round, Wanganui ran up three more points and the Yellows came back with a last despairing dash—and missed! From then to the finish Wanganui had their opponents beaten to a walk, and ere the whistle gave up the business four tries and a goal were added by the river city-ites, and Taranaki staggered off the field a beaten team by 20 points to 15. With a fortnight's training Taranaki team would "put it all over" Wanganui! The Northern League match between Taranaki and Wanganui, on Monday, at the rirer metropolis, drew a gate of £l2 a* compared with a gate of over £IOO which the Rugby game between teams from the same unions took on Monday.
THE ASSOCIATION GAME Th» Stratford and New Plymoutk soccer teams met at Stratford oil Monday, and New Plymouth won by two goals to one. Gwillim and Wylie scored for New Plymouth and Dixon for Stratford.
