EXHUMATION OF BODIES.
To the Editor. Sir, —May I inquire as to whether a borough council or any other local authority has the right to order the exhumation of the dead, even with a view to re-interment in a nearly adjoining place, and whether, in the event of permission being required, it was sought for and obtained in the cases in which such removals have recently been effected in our local cemetery? If I am not mistaken, in the Old Country the matter of exhumation is so stringently guarded that an order from the Home Office is indispensable ere a body can be removed trom the grave to which it has been committed.—l am, etc., INQUIRER.
