The Hawera was off Stephen Island when water was found 'to be coming in from below. The pumps were seti going, but the water gained at the rate of 10 inches in an hour. The water, however, got no higher than the stokehold plates, so none of the vessel's cargo was damaged. The vessel put back to Wellington and the cargo, which was not damaged, was transfered to the Mana. On being placed on the slip it was found that the caulking of a seam in the vessel's bottom had opened out. The vessel was expected to be taken off the cradle yesterday.
