It was discovered that he had broken his off hindleg, and he had to be destroyed. 1 _ Racing will be in full swing at EllersS lie. Wingatui and Otaki to-day, principal interest centring on the Great Northern meeting. Steeplechase Day at Ellerslie is always a popular one, and to-day's big cross-country event promises to ibe highly exciting." On Wangaimi form Okaihau, Contimiance, Dorando and .Glenmore must give a good account of themselves, and the presence of the Grand National winner, Paritutu, and other notable jumpers augurs well for a great race. On his own ground Okaihau may be hard to beat, but Paritutu may be put down amongst those who will be going strongly at the finish. Okaihau jumped l proficiently in the Wangaimi
meeting, and finished very strongly, so the distance should not trouble him. Continuance shaped finely for his first time over country, and should he improved by ill.' *;;iliop. Dorando does not stay very well, and Olenmore may find the fence* u bit stiff for him. Little Sol has a nice handy weight, and he has been so often round the course that he is sure to be right up at the finish. Anything may happen on an up-hill and down-dale course, and this lends to the excitement of the steeplechase. The favorite double for Otaki is Byron —Makara, both horses being, it is stated, Deeley's mounts. Mulga Bill and Makara are expected to show up at the meeting. Owing to a family bereavement, Mr. J. Prosser's horses will not be started at Otaki.
