He was giving an exhibition flight when he fell, fracturing his skull. THE HILLSIDE MURDERS. New York, June 2. Claude Allen was found guilty of the murder of Judge Thornton at Hillsville courthouse. The jury recommended a sentence of fifteen years' imprisonment. THE WiERRrWA ELECTION. Received 3, 12.50 a.m. Sydney, June 2. iFor the by-election for Werriwa, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Hall, the returns are incomplete. Bennett, the labor candidate, is leading. A feature of the election is that it is the first contest held under the new Electoral Act, which prevents comments in newspapers, except over personal signature. A CONFIDENT POLITICIAN. Sydney, June 2. Mr. Willis, speaking at the turning of the first sod of the Werriwa railway, defended his actions in Parliament, claiming precedent. He claimed that since he had been Speaker he had secured the enfranchisement of 25 per cent, more people, and had saved the State £IOO,OOO.
