THE KOTUKU MISHAP. By Telegraph—Press Association. \ Greymouth, Saturday. The Nautical Court has delivered' its ifinding in connection with the stranding of the Kotuku. It found that Captain Christian, in going full speed down the river, did not act with prudence, and was guilty of improper navigation. After the vessel struck the captain collapsed. The mate, Carrick, then took charge. The striking of the vessel resulted in the stripping of the propellor, and the Bteamer | became a total wreck. This was due 1 to IlUi? want of _ coolness and judgment. The other officers and the crew were .exonerated. The captain's collapse was due to mental shock, not to liquor. Th:> captain was censured for going full speed and ordered to pay half the costs, amounting to £23 4s. His certificate was returned. THE CONSOLIDATED MINES. Greymouth, Saturday. The management of the Consolidated Mines. authorises the denial of the statement that plans were ever prepared for fifty extra heads of stampers at the Progress mill. NATIONAL ART GALLERY. Wellington, Saturday. Over £SOOO has been subscribed' for the National Art Gallery. The City Council has decided to subsidise that amount with £ 1000.
