Before the Totalisator Commission, information was submitted on behalf of Queensland, specially obtained by the Agent-General in London, stating that the abolition of bookmakers in France has resulted from the scandals arising and the enormous profit made by bookmakers. The consensus of opinion in France was to the effect that the abolition had had a beneficial and salutary effect. It had not affected horse breeding, but had made for straighter betting.
