HONORING THE DEAD
MONUMENT UNVEILED AT NORMANBY. By Telegraph—Preaa Association. Hawera, Last Night. An interesting function took place at Normanby to-day, when the Prime Minister (the Hon. T. Mackenzie), in the presence of a large gathering of veterans, the military And settlers, unveiled a cairn in Waihi Cemetery, and a monument in Victoria Park, erected to commemorate the memory of the soldiers-' who fell in the Maori War. Addresses ~' appropriate to the occasion were made by Mr. Mackenzie, the promoters of the movement, and ministers of religion, the keynote of which was the desirablenew of the still further cementing together of the two races. Mr. Mackenzie as- ' sured those present that nothing would be lacking on his part to bring about ' so desirable a consummation. »
