A Melbourne cablegram records the death of Dr. Corbett, Roman Catholic Bishop of Sale, after an operation.

Advice has been received of the death of Captain Hayward, formerly commander of the steamers Mariposa and Ventura.

The Prime Minister will be entertained at a social by his Opunake constituents this evening, and deliver an important policy speech. Mr. L. M. Tansey, formerly a member of the New Plymouth Courthouse staff. is now in practice at Ohakune as] a barrister and solicitor.

The New Plymouth Employers' Association has appointed Mr. C. E. Baker as its representative on the Technical College Advisory Committee. At the Education Board meeting yesterday Miss Wylie was appointed teacher at the Uruti school. The Board also accepted the resignation of Miss J. Beedie, assistant teacher at Stratford, and Mr. S. Turkington, head teacher at Huiakama.

During this month Lady Findlay and her three sons will sail for England. Whether Sir John Findlay will subsequently follow his family to London in the capacity of High Commissioner is (says an exchange) a matter which the Cabinet will decide before the end of this month.

Two presentations have been made to Misa A. Crawford, of the Central school teaching staff, who has resigned from the service of the Education Board. From the members of the staff Miss Crawford received a silver egg-stand, while her pupils made her the recipient of a silver teapot. In pursuance to the recommendations of the school committees, the Education Board yesterday confirmed the following appointments:—York, Mr. A. Potroz, vice Mr. C. Neilsen, resigned; Huiakama, Mr. C. Frank, vice Mr. J. Blake, resigned; Bell Block, Mr. H. Jeffrey, vice Mr. Horsup, resigned. The many country friends of Mr. T. Blanchard, late of the White Cliffs, now travelling representative of Messrs J. B. MacEwan and Co., will regret to hear that he has been confined to his bed for the last fortnight. His condition has. however, slightly improved, and he will undergo an operation for appendicitis within the next few days.
