FRANCE AND BRITAIN
ENTENTE OR ALLIANCE? By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, May 27. The Morning Post's suggestion that the entente with France should become an alliance has aroused widespread comment.
The Spectator cordially advocates the proposal, but the Times' Paris correspondent says the entente is much more feotive as a deterrent than an alliance would' be, except upon the basis of an overwhelming land force, and this is not available. . The Manchester Guardian says an alliance is unnecessary and unwise. It would make the international situation more unstable, and would greatly extend the war area.
Le Temps approves of the discussion, but insists that neither side should propose anything which would increase its obligation's, without adequate comprehension.
Other French papers are cautious.
