EMPIRE DAY
A CLERICAL PROTEST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, May 28. Preaching at the military service in Goulburn Cathedral, Archdeacon Bartlett read an extract from a Sydney paper declaring that the spirit of the so-called Empire Day was absolutely intolerable to any Australian who had a spark of manhood, and that the true Australian Empire Day celebrator was a sycophant, spineless and countryless.
Archdeacon Bartlett hurled back the insulting words, which would only make Australians more patriotic, emphasising his protest by throwing the offending paper from the pulpit.
