AN AMICABLE CONFERENCE.' By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. ' The Dunedin Fire Board held a special meeting this afternoon to receive o ' deputation from members of the brigade ' in regard to their alleged grievances. Foreman Duncan, on behalf of the men. asked that the officer in charge should have power to grade the men as first class or senior second class and third < class, the men to be raised to different grades on the officer's recommendation; first class firemen to have a 'trial as i officers if a vacancy occurred, and junior officers to be given a trial if a vacancy occurred in a higher position. In the event of the deputy superintendentship becoming vacant a f<Jneman to, be appointed on trial, the foreman's position ' to be filled from the senior division, aijd if the acting-deputy proves unsatisfac-" tory, and the acting-foreman satisfactory, the latter to be appointed deputy on trial. The meeting was of a cortiial nature, and the hoard undertook to give the requests careful consideration.
