'PALMERSTON NORTH SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, Yesterday. The Supreme Court has opened before Mr. Justice Chapman. There is only a small number of criminal cases, on which fact the Judge complimented the district. The civil business, however, constitutes a record, there being 37 cases.
True bills were found against Andrew Wichnewsky / for indecent assault, Henry Dennett escaping from custody, Douglas Munro and Edmund Baignent conspiring to defraud, Robert Russell assault, John Duncan indecent assault.
Palmers ton North, Last Night. The Supreme Court criminal sessions opened to-day before Mr. Justice Chapman, who stated that the district appeared to be particularly free from crime, oil this occasion there being only five cases. Two sexual cases were the only really serious ones. Harry Dennett was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labor, the sentence to be cumulative with one he is at present serving for escaping from custody at Taihape. The case against Robert Russell, charged with having assaulted his wife so as to cause her actual bodily harm, broke down on account of the wife declining to give evidence against the accused. John Duncan was found guilty of indecently assaulting a girl six years of age at Hunterville. Sentence was deferred.
