The weather was bright but cold and the wicket soft for the resumption of the Australia-Oxford match. Whitty and Hazlitt disposed of the remaining five wickets for 20 runs, the latter capturing three for 14 and Whitty two for 11. Twining failed to negotiate a breakback. Hazlitt clean bowled Crutchley, and Naumann, in the next over, gave an easy catch at point. The Gaekwar, an the following over, in trying a big pull, gave Bardsley a catch on the boundary. He had survived two appeals for leg before. Kaye was bowled next ball. The last three wickets failed to add a run. The innings lasted 110 minutes.
Oxford followed on. The wicket, which had ben rolled, played better. Hazlitt, Whitty and Minnett were tried before the luncheon adjournment, which took place when 59 runs had been scored for no wickets. Macartney and Whitty bowled after luncheon. Knott played excellent cricket, and Twining was good till he was taken at point. The century went up in dlO minutes. The Gaekwar was caught at slip. He hit one six. The bowling was skilful. , Carkeek was hit on the head by a ball, and' Jennings kept wickets after tea. The arrears were wiped out in 190 minutes. Crutchley made his runs by on-drives. He had a lucky innings. The others were poor, Naumann being bowled first ball. The attendance was 1000.
Received 26, 5.5 p.m. London, May 25. The weather was delightful when the match was continued, and the wicket was much faster.
Whitty secured Oxford's remaining wicket with the addition of 3 byes. The innings occupied 230 minutes. Requiring 42 runs, Australia' secured them in 25 minutes. Jennings gave a fine display of all-round cricket, scoring five fours. The following are the scores:
