BORROWING TO CEASE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received' 26, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, May 26. Mr. Fisher, replying to criticisms of the Federal financial policy, said that he was determined that there should be no more borrowing, excepting in the case of war or other emergency, and that the policy of the Goerament would be much sounder than under a system of borrowing in time of peace and prosperity.
A BY-ELECTION. Received 26, 5.5 p.m. London, May 25. The by-election for South Hackney, necessitated by Mr. Horatio Bottomley's resignation, resulted as "follows:—Morrison (Liberal) 5339, Gibson (Unionist) 4386. Mr. Bottomley supported Mr. Morrison.
