Reid, interviewed, said that his visit to Germany had convinced him that the great bulk of the Germans are at one with Great Britain. He found a strong desire for a friendly development of peace sentiments, in no way inconsistent with a most thorough and resolute defence. The apparent extravagance in naval and military preparations was serving a peaceful purpose, making aggressive war more risky. Berlin, May 24. The Reichstag has prorogued to November 26. Herr Hollweg congratulated the Deputies for their voting on th» 7V".-ucc Bill, as demonstrating a determination that their nation shall maintain its strength as an additional guarantee of peace.
