Watt, the New Zealand sportsman, in an interview, said that there was no question that the totalisator was better for owners. Under it they were able to run for larger stakes. Betting with the bookmaker was not necessary under these circumstances, and naturally this made the Taring straighter than it might be otherwise. The totalisator had absolutely made racing in New Zealand.
