There were 2000 spectators. Kelleway and Hazlitt were the bowlers. The first ball from Kelleway removed Mead's leg stump. His score included one six and five fours. Burns went in next, and was bowled when hitting across a long hop. Webster dismissed Littlejohn with a smart catch off Kelleway. Thompson was taken brilliantly by Hazlitt lown down at short' leg. The batsman was dissatisfied with the decision. Brown lost his wicket in trying to turn Emery. Perrin played a sound innings lasting 80 minutes. The innings of M.C.C. lasted 275 minutes. Many no-balls were bowled, and several were scored from. There were fourteen extras from this source in the two M.C.C. innings. The Australians' second innings opened badly. Gregory was snapped up at second slip without scoring. Showers stopped play for a few minutes, and on resuming Macartney played on to Thompson. He had shown some brilliant cutting. Mayne was dismissed by a brilliant high left-handed catch, and Bardsley while attempting a leg hit. He did some good off-driving. Minnett did some fine driving and leg-hitting, but his innings was marred by chances when he had made 2 to Brown at the wickets and at 21 to Thompson oil Douglas. He hit ten fours.
