EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. "VANITY FAIR." In their last great production ..the papular Vitagraph Company has completely eclipsed all previous efforts, and won many thousands of new patrons to picture theatres in all parts of the Eng-lish-speaking world. tf Vanity Fair," the novel chosen, is a fitting subject for such an elaborate and expensive production, and at the hands of the Vitagraph experts it becomes a living reality. The picture is in three parts, the full length running into over 3200 ft of film, and not one foot is padded to any unnecessary length. Prom start to finish the picture grips the onlooker with an intensity that is only possible with an absolute masterpiece of subtle acting and brilliant photography. The first reel opens when Becky Sharp (Helen Gardner) returns from hoarding school and bashful Joseph Sedley {John Bunny) falls desperately in love, and becomes her devoted slave. Erom thence on the many adventures of the fascinating but unscrupulous Becky are faithfully followed, right to the time when Major Dobbin and Amelia visit her in her poverty, and find her a dissipated hut unconquered outcast. She at first refuses aid, but with a dawning realisation of the emptiness of her former life, goes with them to begin a new and more creditable existence, where she can forget the past. "Vanity Fair" is supported with a programme of the highest merit.
