THE MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS. In a leading article, referring to the new Minister for Railways, the current number of the Jifew Zealand Railway Review says:—"The new Minister has the best of intentions, hut he will be a marvel of perseverance and strong-mindedness if he carries them, out, loaded as he is with the control of railways, the compulsory military service system at its most critical stage, and the responsibility for the Dominion's finance, including control of the great State lending offices and the Land and Income Tax Department. The general secretary of the A.S.R.S. has been in touch with the new Minister, and is favorably impressed with his grasp of the various matters placed before him. Mr. Myers lias adopted a new departure, which the Society welcomes, that of meeting the Society's representatives in the presence of the general manager and other high officers of the Department. Thi,s enables the Society to promptly kear the Departmental point of view, and meet the Departmental arguments, which formerly were placed before the Minister without chance of correction, no matter how partisan or inaccurate they might have heen. 'We acknowledge the splendid experience of the new Minister for Railways; we give him credit for great capacity, and we can only hope that strong pressure of over-work will not force him into the fatal error of blind reliance on bureaucrats utterly out of sympathy with the Department's employees and its customers."
