THE WAIROA KAILWAY. By Telegraph—Press A»sooiafci»n. Wairoa, Monday. Keplying to a deputation at Wairoa, on Saturday, on the question of starting railway construction at Wairoa also, Mr, Mac Donald said he would disapprove of diverting money from the Gisborne or Napier ends. If Parliament authorised the work he was prepared to do it. At present the Government could carry its own material at either end. There were 23 lines under construction, but he was prepared to consider the question of starting the Wairoa section, if the engineer's report favored it. A TRAGEDY. IN EMBRYO. Auckland, Monday. A woman's tweed 1 coat, underskirt, shoes and stockings, also a light cloth coat such as is worn by a girl of eleven years, were found on the beach near Mangere. There was Is 6d in silver in the woman's jacket. In the child's handkerchief there was sixpence and a school medal in the smaller coat. The clothing was quite dry. It is stated that it must have been left on the beach after the last tide receded. The affair is a complete aystery. JEWELLER IN TROUBLE. Dunedin, Monday. Alexander Marshall, manager of Stewart Dawson's Christchurch business, was arrested at Green Island on Saturday, on a charge of theft of £IOO from the firm. He appeared in court this morning, and was remanded to Christchurch. Bail was forthcoming.
