MOA ROAD BOARD
The annual meeting of the Moa Road Board was held at the Board's office, Inglewood, on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs. H. Trimble, W. P. Bishop, A. Chard, J. Collingwood, J. Williams, M. Hopson, J. Bridgeman, A. E. Lawrence and A. Corkill.
The clerk (Mr. W. Ogier) occupied the chair, and announced that, as the result of the recent election, Messrs. H. Trimble, A. E. Lawrence, M. Hopson and W. P. Bishop had been returned. In response to his application for nominations for chairman, Mr. M. Hopson moved that Mr. Trimble be re-elected. He had particular pleasure in doing so, he stated, because it was twelve years since he nominated Mr. Trimble to that position on his first assuming it, and he felt proud of the excellent way in which Mr. Trimble had fulfilled the duties. 'Several members at once rose to second this motion, which was unanimously carried.
Mr. Trimble then assumed the chair and returned thanks for his re-election. FOREMAN'S REPORTS.
Foreman (!. Ward reported that the bridge on the Lepper road had been repaired and cleared; 100 yards of metal had been put on the Egmont road, between Junction road and Kaimiro School, and (he water-tables had also been cleared; works had been attended to on the Upland and Dudley roads. Foreman W. Bennett reported that he had been employed at various work on the Kaimata, Katapiko, Mana, Kupara and Motukawa roads. Rowan and Thonmson had made another start with the Mana road contract, but the contractor for the Ralapiko contract had not yet started. The Motukawa road required attention.
Foreman Knofflock had been at work on the Davis, Everett and Suffolk roads. Richmond road required metal badly, as he had to cut fern and fill in the deep holes.
■Foreman Jones had commenced the loan contract on the Durham road, and had already laid ten chains of metal. He was employing four men at 9s per day. Mr. Douch had finished his boulder contract, and the stones were now being broken. Durham road west was breaking up, but he would see to it as soon as lie had time. Lawrence's ■ .lOOyds of boulders on the Durham road east had been broken, and measured 102 yds. 21ft. Norfolk east boulders had all been obtained, and ho had patched the Rugby road. GOVERNMENT GRANTS. The Under-Secretary for the Public Works Department forwarded a copy of a circular asking the Board to submit application for any grants required for bridge and road construction at as early a date as possible—Held over till next meeting. MONTHLY STATEMENT. The monthly statement showed that receipts had been £97 14s Gd (rates £SO 8s 4d), and the expenditure had amounted to £505 13s lOd (roads £154 6s 7d, transfer Government subsidies to loan £170). The bank balance showed a credit to the general account of £1827 0s lid, loan account £214 10s 2d. GENERAL.
It was reported by the chairman that the culvert on the Ratapiko road had been filled in by the Board's foreman at a cost of £4 12s. Members expressed satisfaction at this result, as it had been estimated to cost about £ls.
The chairman, Messrs. Chard, Collingwood and J. Williams, were appointed to inspect the approach to Mr. C. Longstaff's property on the King road, and report at next meeting.
Foreman Ward was instructed to test the pipe moulds. Mr. J. Mischewski wrote claiming £2 10s royalty for stone taken for the Durham road metal contract. Messrs. Broadmore Bros, also claimed £1 10s for river work done for the foreman.—Agreed to. The clerk to the Taranaki County Council forwarded a copy of the valuation roll for the district.
Mr. .Tas. Ilodges and Mrs. Broadmore, of Dudley road, wrote requesting the Board to clear a ditch on the Dudley road in -frontf-of tlieir property.—The foreman will visit the locality.
Mr. IT. 15. Owen, of the Richmond road, drew the Board's attention to some dangerous ruts at the foot of the hill in front of Mr. Haverbur's. They would, unless attended to at once, he the cause of a serious accident, as already there had been one or two narrow escapes. Air. Channerv forwarded an account for £1 for fencing a dangerous place on the King road.—Agreed to. Air. W. E. Percival wrote, accepting appointment as the Board's member on the Assessment Court. The chairman notified that he had accepted the following tenders for contracts cancelled at last meeting: Bristol road west, boulders, Rowan, (is TOd; Suffolk Road, W. H. Julian, 3s lOd. Tenders on two other roads were not accepted, as they were too high, The chairman's action was confirmed.
It was reported that the total cost of the Manganui bridge to the Board was £2192 lis 2d.
Mr. T. Williamson was appointed foreman for the No. 1 district, out of nine applicants. Accounts were passed for payment — general £175 8s 9d, loan £39 12s.
