THE HAUPIRI
STOVE ON A REEF. By Telegraph—Press AfMofctlan. Wellington, Saturday. The Union Company's steamer Haupiri, which left Wellington last night for Picton and the East Coast, struck Barrett's reef, and as she was making water Captain Morrison ran into Evans Bay at 2 p.m., close to the Union Company's new wharf. She has a list to port, and there is water in two holds. It was thick weather when she struck. The Haupiri was not beached. The vessel is lying at the Union Company's , wharf in Evans' Bay, with a heavy list to port. The cargo in bhe lore hatch is chiefly manure, which is, damaged, but the general merchandise in the other holds is undamaged. The Haupiri carried no passengers, and the impact wan only a slight one. There is ft hole in the fore hatch. This morning a powerful pumping plant was installed preparatory to placing the vessel on the patent slip, which is just alongside the wharf. Captain Morrison states that .the Pencarrow light was obscured by mist and driving rain.
