IMPERIAL POLITICS
A "SLIMEIIOUSE" SPEECH. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, May 17. The Opposition papers are criticising Mr. Lloyd George and what they describe as his "Slimehouse speech," pointing out that his ignorance of history and his assaults on the rich aristocracy have nothing to do with the transfer of property from the active Welsh church to the county councils. Also his argument that church property prior to the Reformation belonged to ~ir.n.;njsU is answered by Mr. Asquith's contention that the Protestant church has a legal continuance.
Some Nonconformist Liberals have informed the whips that though they voted for disestablishment they were opposed to the disendowment clauses, particularly to the allocation of religious money to specific secular purposes.
