THE EMPIRE THEATRE. The bi-weekly change of programme was given the Empire Theatre "on Saturday night before a large audience, and with it were ushered in several films of outstanding interest. The feature of the new series was the novelty of many of the attractions screened. For instance, patrons were treated to a new sensation in the shape of "An Aeroplane Elopement," which involved an exciting chase of one aeroplane after another (containing the prospective bridegroom and bride), a race between a motor-car and the pursued aeroplane, and later on with an express train. "The inhabitants of Jungletown" was also brimful of novelty, and it shared honors with a more commonplace, but none the less interesting, film descriptive of "Making silk hats." To the average man who smokes his cigar or a more homely pipeful of plug tobacco and never gives a thought as to its career prior to its advent into his pocket, an excellent picture dealing with "The Tobacco Industry" should not come amiss. 'Thrown to the Lions" was at once a highly dramatic and unusual subject. On the scenic side, those present went into raptures over the beautiful "Norwegian Fjords" and their intricate nooks and crannies, while the sentimental were well catered for in the screening of "A Voiceless Message." No fewer than four comics were shown, and each met with demonstrative approval. Whether it was the bevy of pretty girls which figured in the picture or because of the numerous complicating situations it would be hard to tell, but certain it was that "'Some Mothers-in-law" was a pronounced favorite.
