DISEASED TROUT
GENERAL DOR WARD REPLIED TO. Auckland, May 12. The statement made by Major-General Dorward, as reported by cablegram, regarding New Zealand trout is characterised by the president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society as gross exaggeration. "While it is perfectly true that there are some diseased fish in New Zealand," continued Mr. Hazard, "fchey are only found in two places, Taupo and Rotorua, which are both under the Control of the Tourist Department, and the proportion of fish affected is not a large one. It is quite unfair and incorrect to say that the industry is neglected, as the Department is doing all it can to get at the root of the difficulty. Beyond the fact that fish are affected with a certain worm very little is known about the mysterious disease, but the steps that are being taken by the veterinary staff of the Agricultural Department should result in definite information being collected."
