ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A MOTOR FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waipawa, Yesterday. At the adjourned inquest on the bodies of Muri Muri and Hine Rene, who were killed in the motor accident on Tuesday last, the verdict was that they met their deaths through the driver, Kuku Matene Ropiha, attempting to negotiate a corner at excessive speed, while more or less under the influence of liquor. SUICIDE AT OHAUPO. Hamilton, Yesterday. Spencer Morton, aged 22, who was employed an a store at Ohaupo, committed suicide by drinking caTbolic acid yesterday. The reason is not known. FATALITY AT PATEA. At Patea on Saturday afternoon a six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Boyle climbed upon a copper containing a quantity of almost boiling water, in order to reach some marbles on a shelf above, and in getting down he placed his hand on the copper lid, which slipped away and caused him to fall into the water, his body being badly scalded. The unfortunate little fellow 'had sufficient presence of mind to scramble out almost immediately, and his cries quickly brought his father on the scene, who at once saw that his son was seriously hurt. Medical aid was at once invoked, but without avail, the child passing away a few hours afterwards.—Press.
