CRIMES OF THE TIMES
OLD NEWSVENDOR AND YOUTH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. A laborer named Prank Taylor was charged with having assaulted and robbed an old man named Edward Olsen, a newspaper vendor over 70 years of age. The case for the prosecution was that accused was in the habit of visiting acquaintances residing in the same tenement as Olsen, but, on this occasion, found his way into the room occupied by Olsen and two other old men. He then suggested that Olsen should come and drink with him, and, upon Olsen refusing, accused caught hold of him by the throat and abstracted 25s from his pocket. Accused then took his watch and chain, and left the house. After hearing the evidence of complainant and two constables, accused entered a plea of guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
