HOCKEY.
The Saturday Looker players will open the season at New Plymouth this afternoon, when the Egmont Hockey Club will hold a practice at the Racecourse ground at half-past two. Any others thinking of taking on this good winter sport will be welcomed, and teams will be picked on the ground for a practice match. NOTES. Selectors for the Northern and Southern Divisions respectively are as follows:—Northern—Messrs. Avery and ,T. Harris; Southern—Messrs. Burdekin, and Thomson. Mr. E. B. Anderson will make the final selection. The. secretary (Mr. Avery) has received word t'hat Stratford will enter a beam for the Southern competition, taking up the bye, their first matcli being against Kaponga, on Thursday next. Auckland started its season last week with a very successful five and seven-a-side tournament and sports. The winning team was Ponsonby. Mr P. T. Murray 'has resigned the secretaryship of the New Zealand Council, and Mr. D. F. Oowper, late of Auckland, has boon elected in his stead.
